Contemporary Landscape Painting
Florian Weiß is a contemporary German landscape painter. His oil paintings develop from direct observation of real landscapes, particularly the Upper Palatinate Jura in Bavaria. For him, landscape is more than a subject. It is a process of perception and painterly transformation. Through colour, space and composition, he creates independent pictorial realities that move between figuration and abstraction.

About the Artist
Florian Weiß is a contemporary German landscape painter born in Regensburg in 1973 and based in Parsberg, Bavaria. His artistic work focuses on the landscapes of the Upper Palatinate Jura, exploring the relationship between direct observation, colour, space and movement.
After completing an apprenticeship at the Bamberg Cathedral Stonemasons' Workshop in 1995, he studied architecture in Regensburg from 1996 to 1999. From 2000 to 2008, he studied fine arts at the University of Regensburg, developing an independent painterly approach rooted in the observation and transformation of natural landscapes.
His creative process frequently begins outdoors with plein-air watercolours. These studies capture changing light, spatial relationships and characteristic landscape forms. In the studio, they become the starting point for expressive oil paintings that move between recognisable landscape and abstraction.
Rather than reproducing a particular place, Weiß seeks to create a distinct pictorial reality in which colour, gesture and composition convey the atmosphere and energy of the landscape.
